Head of School Randall Dunn, in partnership with the Latin School Parent Association, is pleased to present Marc Brackett, Director of the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence & Professor in the Child Study Center at Yale University.

Marc's grant-funded research focuses on the role of emotional intelligence in learning, decision making, relationship quality, wellbeing, performance, and organizational climate. Marc is the lead developer of RULER, an evidence-based approach to social and emotional learning that has been adopted by over 1000 public, charter, and private schools across the United States and in other countries, including Australia, England, Italy, Mexico, and Spain. RULER infuses emotional intelligence into the fabric of a school through training for school leaders, educators and staff, students, and families, and has been shown to enhance wellbeing, academic performance, and school climate.

The evening's discussion centering on regulating emotions to succeed in school is a free event open to the public. Please RSVP.

The Academy dancers had the privilege recently to learn from Harris Theater choreographer in residence, Brian Brooks.  Mr. Brooks will be back at The Academy for extended residencies in March and late April, where he and the students will work on pieces for the Harris Theater's Mix at Six series on May 3, 2017, and the Academy Spring Dance Concert in late April at the Athenaeum Theatre.

Music Department students were treated to a master class from world-renowned jazz drummer and former Head of Jazz Studies at The Juilliard School, Carl Allen. Mr. Allen coached Academy jazz combos and jazz vocalists and led a fascinating Q & A on the life of a professional jazz musician.

Students in the Musical Theatre Department began a stellar semester of student performances with "Brush Up Your Shakespeare" at IO Theater. In conjunction with the Shakespeare 400 celebration, the department presented a revue of material from Shakespear's plays and from the musicals they inspired.

This year's All-School Showcase will be held Thursday, Feb 16 at the Athenaeum Theatre. The Showcase features top work from each arts department and the presentation of the first-ever Faculty Legacy Award, honoring history teacher Tim Tynan.
